Wassi Art is an unexpected treasure chest of unusual pottery that absolutely delights collectors and visitors!
Located in the Idyllic resort town of Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Wassi Art started in 1990 with three intuitive artisans. Now fifteen years later and forty employees strong, Wassi Art designs adorn homes worldwide.
Famous visitors to Wassi Art include Kofi Annan, Shari Belafonte, Bryan Adams, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jesse Jackson, and Ambasssdor Andrew Young.
The Name Wassi (wha-see) is an old Jamaica dialect word meaning terrific, stinging like a wasp. This truly Jamaican trait of excellence has been captured by the founders, Robert and Terri Lee in the world class quality of Wassi Art's pottery and reputation. Exposing the talents of young Jamaican artists in creations that are unique, beautiful and cultural is a vision achieved.
To tap into this foundation of talent, a very unorthodox approach of encouraging artistic freedom in a production setting was utilized. The result is an explosion of gorgeous art created in spontaneity as the clay "speaks" to the artisans, making each creation an experience of human spirit poured into fire and earth to create a cherished island treasure. |
